How to Add a Blog to Drupal

Learn how to add a blog section to your site

Blogs are essential part of every website nowadays and a great way to share news with your audience. In this tutorial, you will learn how to add a Blog section to your Drupal website.

Enable the Blog Module

First, you need to enable the Blog module which comes installed by default with Drupal. Like any other module, find it in the Modules page, place a check on the Enabled checkbox next to it and hit the Save configuration button at the bottom of the page.

Create your First Blog Post

Now that the Blog module is enabled, go to Content -> Add Content. You will see a new content type available for you - Blog entry. Click on that link to proceed.

Now, you can add the content to your blog entry as if you're creating a regular page, like the About Us one for example. You will find the screen very familiar. Once ready with the creation of this blog post, simply press the Save button at the bottom of the page.

The last step is to actually add a link to your blog, so you visitors can actually reach the information you're posting. To do this go to Structure -> Menus and hit the add link button next to the Main menu.

There are two fields you have to fill in - Menu link title which is the label that will actually show and the Path field which should be "blog".

We will be talking more about menus in the last chapter of the tutorial but it was important to add the Blog item now, simply because it's URL is not easily configurable as the ones of regular pages. Once you have the Blog menu added, you can refresh your front page and click on the new Blog section. You should see your post already public!
