How to Enable Payments?
Table of Contents
In this guide, you’ll learn the detailed steps for enabling different payment methods in SiteGround Ecommerce.
Why Payment Methods are Crucial for Your Online Store
By offering a variety of payment methods in your online store, you cater to a broader audience and accommodate their preferences. This flexibility can enhance the customer experience, build trust, and increase your conversion rates. After all, the checkout process is where the final decision is made, and having their preferred payment method can be the deciding factor for many customers.
How to Enable Payment Methods
To get started, navigate to Site Admin > Settings > Payments from the menu on the left. This opens the Payments page with three available payment methods:
- Card payments via Stripе
- PayPal
- Pay on Delivery
- Direct Bank Transfer

More information about each method is provided below.
Card Payments via Stripe
Stripe is a globally recognized payment provider renowned for their security and ease of use. This makes them a trustworthy partner for handling your transactions. Follow the steps below to start accepting debit card, credit card, and wallet (Google Pay and Apple Pay) payments using Stripe:
- Click on the Enable button in the Card Payments via Stripe section.
- A new window will open to forward you to the Stripe website. It will prompt you to enter your email address to log in to an existing account or create a new one.
- Follow the onboarding process on Stripe’s website and make sure you fill in all required information.
- Once completed, you’ll be redirected back to the Payments page, where you’ll see an Enabled label above the Stripe icon.
- Additionally, three new buttons appear in the card – a link to your Stripe Dashboard, an option to temporarily Disable Stripe and an option to Remove Account completely.
PayPal
PayPal is another popular payment processor used by millions of customers every day. You can easily integrate it into your Ecommerce store with a few clicks, following these steps.
- Press the Enable button in the PayPal section.
- A new window will pop up. When you have Stripe enabled as well, you can choose whether to process card payments through Stripe or connect to PayPal (if both payment processors support your store’s currency).
- You will be redirected to the PayPal setup page, where you will be prompted to link a PayPal Business account to your store. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup.
- Once ready, you will be redirected back to the Payments section. If the setup is successful, the PayPal card will have the Enabled label.
- You will have three new options. Use PayPal Dashboard to access your PayPal dashboard. Disable will temporarily disable the payment method. Remove Account will disconnect your store from PayPal.
Pay on Delivery
To facilitate customers who prefer to pay upon receiving their products, enable Pay on Delivery. You can do this by clicking on Enable within the Pay on Delivery.

That’s it – there are no additional steps required for this payment method. Once it is activated, its card will be labeled as Enabled.
You can Disable this payment method when needed.

Direct Bank Transfer
Direct Bank Transfer (or wire transfer) is another payment method that allows customers to send money directly to your bank account. Note that direct bank transfers (e.g., SEPA, SWIFT, BACS, and CHAPS) are not automatic. You have to manually verify that payments are received in your bank account before shipping an order. To enable this payment method, follow these steps:
- Click on Enable on the Direct Bank Transfer card.
- A pop-up will appear, asking for your bank details.
- Enter any of the relevant fields depending on your country and bank but most commonly you would need to fill in Account Name, Account Number, IBAN or Routing Number.
- Use the Payment Instructions field to provide any specific instructions for your customers. These instructions will be visible to them on the order confirmation page and in the order received email.
- Confirm the settings with the Save button.
The payment method card will now be labeled as Enabled. You can always Edit these bank details at a later stage if needed, or Disable this payment method completely.
