Video Transcription

Important! We have updated our Website Wizard so it will differ from the version shown on the video!

Installing Joomla 3 on your new Siteground account is very easy. To begin with log in to your user area If you see this pop-up Welcome to our Website Wizard you can proceed with this video. If you don't see this wizard go to out next "Alternative" installation video. With this option ticked to get Joomla pre-installed on this account click on Proceed. We now need to choose our login details for Joomla.

We need to choose a Username and a password and these should be different to the username and password that you used for your user area on Siteground. I'm going to enter my username as my fullname and I am going to choose a complex password When you enter your password this password meter here will indicate if you are using a strong password. A strong password is a combination of uppercase lowercase and numbers. Then we confirm the password again. We can choose to install some additional templates at this time but for these lessons we're not going to do that. At the bottom click Submit. The Siteground wizard is now installing Joomla 3 on your account. When this installation is complete you are ready to go ahead and log in to your Joomla 3 web site for the first time.

We can see the special url that we will need to access the administrator and confirmation of our username and password. This has also been emailed to you. I'm going to highlight the url copy it open a new tab in my browser paste that in and you will see a log in screen Here we need to enter the username and password that you just created and click Log in. You're now inside the administrator section of your Joomla 3 web site. This is where you will do all your work creating your content, your menus etc. Right now If you look in the top corner it says My Joomla that's the default site name that the installation has given it so the first thing we need to do is to go ahead and change that. Go to the System and click on Global Configuration Here in Site Name remove the words My Joomla and enter the name of your web site.

This is a real name not a domain name. When you've done that click Save & Close. You will see now that the name is in the top although it may be truncated due to a lack of space and if we click on that word a new browser tab opens this loads the front of your web site. This is what your site visitors can see. In the coming lessons I will take you through a step by step process to create a full Joomla 3 web site.
